Brian Harold May (London, July 19, 1947) is a British musician, composer, multi-instrumentalist, activist and astrophysicist. He is known for being the guitarist, composer, vocalist and sometimes keyboardist for the British band Queen.
He graduated in Physics and Astronomy from Imperial College London in 1968. For his doctorate in astrophysics, Brian studied the reflection of light from interplanetary dust in the Solar System. His thesis, An Investigation of Motion of Zodiacal Dust Particles, is based on his observations at the Teide Observatory, at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (University of La Laguna), on the island of Tenerife.
He has become a NASA collaborator and one of its most prominent and influential spokespersons, specifically collaborating on the New Horizons project, a probe launched by NASA in 2006 whose objective was to reach Pluto and its satellites.
May has formed a group to promote fair treatment for animals and animal rights, with her group, Save Me. The group’s main concern is to ensure that the 2004 Game Act and other laws that protect animals remain in force.
May prefers to be remembered for his work for animal rights than for his music or works for science.
